Air fryers are the new must-have kitchen appliance that promises to cook your food in a healthier way. They use hot air instead of oil, to make crispy fries, chicken wings, and more without all the fat and calories.
Any appliance that has a heating element is a high-wattage appliance. Most air fryers in our homes can go up to 1800 Watts.
But what if you want to use an air fryer on your camping trip or off-grid? Can you run an air fryer off-grid on a solar generator? The answer is yes.

What Size Solar Generator for an Air Fryer?
When choosing a solar generator for an appliance the first thing you need to do is to match the inverter rating of the appliance. For an 1800-watt air fryer, you’ll need an inverter rating of at least 2000 watts therefore you need a 2000-watt solar generator or bigger.
You can use a 2000-watt solar generator to run a 1,800-Watt Air Fryer for around 45 minutes enough to bake some potatoes. With the addition of a 600W solar panel, you could potentially run the Air Fryer for up to 52 minutes.
How Long Will a 2000-Watt Solar Generator Run an Air Fryer?
Electrical energy is measured in Watt-Hours. The amount of time you run an appliance determines how much power it uses. Therefore with the watt-hours consumption, you can choose the right capacity that can run your appliance.
To calculate Watt-Hours you multiply the Wattage of the device or appliance and multiply by the number of hours you use the device.
Watt-Hours = Watts X Hours
If you want to use an air fryer for 1 hour, you will need 1800 Wh of energy.
A 2000-watt solar generator will have a battery 24v 100Ah battery. With a lithium-ion battery, you can pull 100% of the battery in an hour. However, the BMS will be set to around 80% at around 21v operating at a max of 80 amps at a voltage of around 21V.
That’s why you get the 1600Wh capacity rating rather than the 2400 true battery capacity. There are also some losses due to conversions. This is why when calculating you use a power factor of 0.85 for conversion losses.
Hence to get the running time
= (1600*0.85)/1800
= 0.75 hrs

How Long Will a 2000-Watt Solar Generator Run an Air Fryer with a Solar Panel?
A 100Ah 24V battery will need 25 amps of DC power to charge. A 600-watt Solar panel can provide 25 amps to fully charge the battery in around four hours. This will depend on the availability of sunlight. 4 hours of sunlight in an ideal situation should provide 2400Wh is enough to fully recharge a depleted 2000-watt solar generator.
With some extra 600 watts available:
= (600*0.85)/1800
= 0.28 hrs
With the addition of solar panels, you can now run the air fryer for an additional 17 minutes running the air fryer for 52 minutes.
The will 600-watt solar panel also recharges the solar generator in around 5 hours. You can also use it to run a hair dryer for 20 minutes.

You could cook a lot of different foods with this time and still have enough capacity to spare to run other appliances on the solar generator. Air fryers have different settings for different temperatures and recommended lengths of time to cook certain foods. For meat, you’ll need to cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 mins, for chicken, you’ll need 20 mins.
